WEEK 11 in the NFL: Things To Be Grateful For

Filed under: — site admin @ 11:33 am

Hello again sports fans. This is what it looks like at the end of week 11 of this season of outstanding professional football. Here are few things to be grateful for:

The Indianapolis Colts of the AFC South and the Chicago Bears of the NFC North have the best records in the sport with a dazzling 9-1-0. While theBaltimore Ravens, the leader in the AFC North and the San Diego Chargers, AFC West are tied for the next best records with both teams carrying 8-2-0.

Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Donovan McNabb is out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. I am sure he is thankful it was not any worse. I’m sure fans of both Mc Nabb and the Eagles are happy it wasn’t any more serious an injury. Early in the second quarter of Sunday’s game in Philadelphia against the Tennessee Titans, McNabb tore a ligament, ( the anterior cruciate ligament-ACL), in his right knee following a play where he was bumped by Tennessee Titans defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch as he attempted to throw the ball when he approached the Titans sidelines. The pass was incomplete. McNabb immediately grabbed his injured right knee. He received some medical attention on the field before being taken off on a stretcher. McNabb will have surgery on his right knee to repair the ligament.

Said Philadelphia’s back-up QB Jeff Garcia, formerly of San Francisco, “It’s an unfortunate thing.” Garcia replaced Mc Nabb in the game on Sunday. “Donovan is a competitor, a leader and he was having a great season. He’ll be missed.” Without McNabb the Eagles were no match for the Titans who won the game 31-13.

(Hey Jeff Lurey you should have treated Terrell Owens better…it’s karma, dude.)

Speaking of karma former NFL star, turned actor, O.J. Simpson will not be reaping the monetary benefits, $3.5 million, of a widely promoted book and interview. So says media mogul Rupert Murdock who owns the Fox Television Network, who would have aired the interview show, and the publishing company that produced the book. I am grateful as are the families of the murdered people that finally someone at News Corp, Murdock’s media conglomerate, realized this idea could be in bad taste. We suggest the folks at Fox and Harper Collins/Regan and all of Murdock’s News Corp, including Murdock himself take a look at this for an idea for a television program I wish I had the funding I’d back a show idea like this with a quickness.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

NFL WEEK 10 Team Standings

Filed under: — site admin @ 9:27 pm

The Indianapolis Colts (AFC South) has the best record in football with a 9-0 record, followed by the Chicago Bears (NFC North) with a record of 8-1-0.

Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys has written a new book. Taking a cue from arch rival Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan Mc Nabb, who once said Owens’ last book about his experience with the Eagles last season could be found in the children’s section of your local bookstore, Owens along with co-author Courtney Parker, has penned a story titled “Little T Learns to Share”. The Dallas wide-receiver’s first children’s book is the story of Little T, the main character, who refuses to share his football but eventually learns he can’t enjoy his new ball without friends. This is the first book in T.O.’s Timeout Series scheduled for release this month. The second book due for release in spring 2007 “Little T Learns What Not to Say” will be followed by a third book “Little T Learns To Say I’m Sorry”, it’s due to be released in the fall of 2007.

Finally, Emmitt Smith, the three-time Super Bowl champion with the Dallas Cowboys, has been declared the winner of the popular television reality program Dancing With the Stars. Smith along with his partner, professional dancer Cheryl Burke, last year’s winner, came away with top honors as voted by the viewing audience. Smith, who won over Mario Lopez, showed that real men can and do dance, and dance well. This College Football Hall of Famer is certainly destined to win induction into the Professional Football Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible in 2010.

Tom Brady, QB and the New England Patriots

Filed under: — site admin @ 5:27 am

On Monday night Tom Brady and the New England Patriots did not fail their fans. MNF featured the Patriots, who scored first, and dominated the Minnesota Vikings, in Minnesota, throughout the game.
The final score 31-7 New England.

It was an interesting meeting, because the Vikings are trying to copy the Patriots game plan for success. Many teams in the NFL are trying to do the same. Too bad the Vikings had to learn in front of a hometown crowd, as well as a national tv audience, that they have much more work to do to copy the successful New England franchise.

A few words about Tom Brady. I like him. I think he’s handsome. I like his cool demeanor. I also think he dresses very well. Yeah, he’s what a QB should be. He’s great on the field, in Monday night’s game over 370 yards passing with 29 completions out of 43 attempts, and off the field!

Chicago Bears Best Record in NFL , Favre, Robins and Owens

Filed under: — site admin @ 12:24 pm

Go Lovie! Go Lovie! Go Bears! Go Bears! The Chicago Bears should be vest-button-poppin’-proud because of their 6 and 0 record. No other team in the NFL has won as many games so far this season. Monday night’s 24-23 defeat of the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona moved the Bears into the premier position

Brett Favre, the Green Bay QB who entered the NFL’s substance abuse program during treatment for an addiction to painkillers in 1996, said it doesn’t make sense that the NFL policy bans his teammate, Koren Robinson from the Packers’ facilities “and the support group that can help him.” Robinson has been suspended for the season due to a charge of being drunk while driving.

And my contribution to T.O. News, all the time, all T.O…..A trend is developing and Owens doesn’t like it. Although his three touchdown catches this past Sunday let him know he’s an important part of the Dallas offense, he ’s noticed that all three came in the second half.

True… he’s right about more balls going his way in the second halves of the last two games.

“I feel like any time I step on the field I can make plays. As I’ve said all along, it’s all about the opportunities that I am given. … I feel like I need to be in the offense, involved a little bit earlier in the ballgame.”

What does Coach Bill Parcells say?

“We still have a lot to learn about some of the things he can do and how best to use him; We are trying to spend a lot of time figuring that out.”

New Orleans Wins Over Philadelphia!

Filed under: — site admin @ 7:03 am

Yippee! Yeah! At last! Finally a team beat Philadelphia…and oh boy, oh B-O-Y what a team. The New Orleans Saints won 27-24 at home when they played the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles QB Mc Nabb had a good day, but the Saints QB Brees had a better day, and that’s what is important to me! Drew Brees completed 27 of 37 passes, while the Eagles QB only completed 19 of 32.

A word about Joe Horn. Fantastic. Joe was lookin’ real good in the end zone doin’ his dance!

Will we see the Saints go marchin’ in Miami in February 2007 ? Stay tuned sports fans. This can only get better.

NFL Standings Right Now

Filed under: — site admin @ 10:58 am

In the AFC it looks like this:

The Denver Broncos are holdin’ on in the AFC West with a 3-1 record; while the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots each are 4-1 respectively in the North and the East. We saved the best for last in the division, the Indianapolis Colts are makin’ a fine showing at this time with
5 and oh!oh! oh!

This is how the NFC looks:

Three teams are flashin’ their big 4-1. They are Philadelphia ’s Eagles (East), New Orlean Saints(South), and the St. Louis Cardinals(West).

But the team I’m loving this season is the team that has the coach named Lovie..the Chicago Bears(North) are sportin’ that great big 5 and zee-ro!

Go Bears!!

Dallas Comes to Philadelphia

Filed under: — site admin @ 10:12 am

This is the game most fans have been waiting for. That’s right this Sunday, October 8th at 415pm eastern time the Cowboys will meet the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Both teams have a two game winning streak(?). In the NFL Division realignment Dallas is in the NFC East(?), so the two teams are bumpin’ heads for first place in the division.

Dallas and Philadelphia are meeting with Dallas’ 2 and 1 record, while Philadelphia has the better 3 and 1 stat. Also Philadelphia’s QB McNabb is leading the league with more than 1200 total passing yards so far this season. Cowboys QB Bledsoe has wide receiver Terrell Owens.

How will the fans react when they see Terrell Owens on the field? What will the Eagles do? You know some players and fans alike hold Owens responsible for the team’s poor performance last season. What a bunch of hooey!

As many of you may recall I was an Eagles fan, but no more. After the manner in which the FO handled the T.O. matter I’m no longer a supporter of that team. I just can’t quite bring myself to cheer for Dallas either.

Best wishes to everyone. Here’s to an exciting game day in Philadelphia. Hope the weather is fair!

MNF: Packers Meet the Eagles

Filed under: — site admin @ 12:43 pm

Oh boy! Oh B-o-y! This is gonna be an exciting Monday Night game. The number one offense in the league, led by QB Donovan McNabb facing the recently RE-discovered QB Brett Favre, of the 2004 season.

Be mindful, Philadelphia has won over Green Bay eight, that’s right eight consecutive times, when they’ve met in Philadelphia.

In the last seven appearances at MFN the Packers quarterback, Favre, has thrown 18 TD passes and only four interceptions. During the third week of this current season he as thrown to ten different receivers.

Tonight’s game will be the battle of the offense, though the defense on the Philadelphia Eagles’ side isn’t too shabby with seven forced fumbles plus16 sacks in three games.

Yes indeedy! This is gonna be one beautiful game! Beautiful!

Terrell Owens A-Okay

Filed under: — site admin @ 1:12 pm

Welcome sports fans to the continuing saga of the adventures of T.O.

We are very happy to know the alleged suicide attempt attributed to the great wide receiver Terrell Owens is totally false. We are equally glad to know he is well and will probably play this weekend. Stay tuned for the sub-plot that is his publicist’s story, Kim Etheredge, versus the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas Fire and Rescue. He-said/She-said taken to a new level.

Although we congratulate the New Orleans Saints on the win on Monday night, we are not happy to know our federal government has spent a great deal of money for restoration of a football stadium for the NFL in Louisiana, and not nearly enough on restoration of homes for the people who worked hard to purchase and maintain those homes. Hey where’s our governmental priorities, anyway??

Super Dome Returns on MNF

Filed under: — site admin @ 1:23 pm

Tomorrow night the Atlanta Falcons will meet the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans at the Super Dome. That’s right…the SUPER DOME! The place where refugees of the notorious storm Katrina of 2005 were housed and complained of inadequate facilities and poor security.

Today, more than one year later, the stadium continues undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation. Officials in Washington and in New Orleans are proud to have the stadium back in service for NFL activities.

The SUPER DOME in New Orleans, the grande dame of covered football venues, has hosted more championship games for the NFL than any other stadium and city. In fact 6 Super Bowl games have been played in Louisiana.

They are: the first SuperBowl in 1978 aka Super Bowl XII followed by games, XV, XX, XXIV, XXXII, XXXVI their respective years are 1981, 1986, 1990, 1998, and 2002.

When this current renovation is complete I expect we will see the SUPER DOME again as the host for the NFL’s big game. Somehow I don’t believe the atmosphere will be the same in this favored U.S. city. Stay tuned folks…..

It’s a bye-week for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Philadelphia Eagles have flown to the “city by the bay", San Francisco, to play the 49ers. Game starts at 415pm eastern time today.

Jacksonville Wins Over Super Bowl Champs

Filed under: — site admin @ 12:28 am

On last night’s Monday Night Football program the world champion Pittsburgh Steelers lost in a shut-out to the Jacksonville Jaguars The final score….Jacksonville 9, PIttsburgh ZERO!

Earlier in the evening Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver Terrell Owens underwent surgery to install a samll plate into his right ring finger. Seems Owens broke his finger during the game on Sunday against Washington. This is the explanation for uncharacteristic incidents of Owens dropping the ball. In fact he didn’t complain or request the source of his pain be examined until the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.

Owens predicts he’ll be healed and ready to play when the Dallas team meets the Titans of Tennessee in about two weeks. T.O. does have that special hyperbolic chamber used for healing in time for Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005….We shall see what we shall see….

Dallas Wins Philadelphia Gets Punked!

Filed under: — site admin @ 12:07 am

On Sunday evening the Dallas Cowboys won over the Washington home team. Cowboys 27, Washington 10. Terrell Owens played a minor role in getting Dallas the victory.

Meanwhile in Philadelphia, McNabb and the Eagles are pickin’ at their tail-feathers ‘cause the Giants came back in the 4th quarter to tie the game, go into overtime and then clinch the game. Though McNabb put up some good numbers, more than 300 yards passing, the Philadelphia team still lost.

Wow! This is an exciting season already with a 3-way tie in the NFC East Dallas, New York and Philadelphia. Since there are only four teams in the NFC East that would make Washington the odd team out.

Tonight on Monday Night Football it’s the Jacksonville Jaguars hosting the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers….

Reggie Bush Talks Back

Filed under: — site admin @ 5:38 pm

“I’m not worried about any of these allegations or anything like that,” he said. “Because I know what the truth is, like I said from day one. Once the smoke clears, everybody’s going to see we did nothing wrong.”

After practice on Friday, New Orleans running back, Reggie Bush denied allegations of wrong-doing as pertains to his days at USC.

The number two NFL draft pick, formerly from the University of Southern Californ, answered reporters’ questions on the subject of an investigation into whether or not Bush’s parents received money and lived rent-free

Reports abound of Bush and family allegedly accepting monetary gifts, and other benefits from two different marketing entities.

The NCAA prohibits student-athletes and their families from receiving extra benefits from agents or their representatives. Any improper benefits could lead to NCAA sanctions against USC and retroactively cost Bush his college eligibility and Heisman Trophy.

Those who know in the NFL say this investigation should not affect Bush’s professional career.

As Reggie Bush states: Once the smoke clears……

Did Reggie Bush Take Money While At USC???

Filed under: — site admin @ 8:24 pm

According to a report by Charles Robinson and Jason Cole, of Yahoo! Sports an eight month investigation reveals that Reggie Bush and his family accepted payments while Bush was a student/player at USC.

These two “reporters” say the investigation shows Bush, a Heisman Trophy-winning running back, and his parents and brother, allegedly received more than $100,000 in financial benefits from marketing agents.

The so-called benefits could lead to NCAA sanctions for the University of Southern California and retroactively cost Bush his college eligibility and Heisman. Bush is now a star running back with the New Orlean Saints. The Saints are scheduled to play at home on September 25, 2006

Five long years without a black man winning college football’s most coveted award, and now this…say it ain’t so Reggie, say it aon’t so!

NFL News

Filed under: — site admin @ 2:59 pm

Hello again sports fans. I’m back after a short, or long, hiatus- depending on your point of view.

Firstly congratulations to the Super Bowl XL Champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers…and many “ata-boyz” to the Seattle Seahawks, for their stellar performance in Detroit at Ford Field in February 2006 when they competed against the Steelers. Sadly there can be only one winner. I’m lookin’ forward to seeing both teams next season.

NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue says he’s retiring from the position in July . US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice says although she’s dreamed of being head of the National Football League she has prior committments that currently prevent her from pitching the gig.

Football owners are meeting beginning today in Orlando, Florida. Hmmm…I wonder what they’re goin’ to discuss?? A replacement for the current commissioner? That’s certainly going to be a subject that will dominate the meetings’ discussions. (July will be here before we know it.) Player safety? Now that’s a real hot topic. When you consider racehorses receive better treatment than human beings in sports, it’s good to know the NFL owners are finally taking a progressive step toward providing for player safety. Will the owners make new rules regarding Instant Replay? How much time should a game official be permitted to view the tape?? 90 seconds? 60 seconds? Half-an-hour? Two weeks? Will they decide to give defensive coaches the same capability as offensive coaches by affording side-line to helmet communications?

Stay tuned for the answers to these and other questions pertaining to the National Football League Owners Meeting in Orlando.
